Streaming

Oversized assets warning

A streamed texture or model is too large. Players see invisible cars, missing textures or crashes.

The error
Asset my_car/my_car.ytd uses 48.0 MiB of physical memory. Oversized assets can and WILL lead to streaming issues.

Why it happens

  • Texture dictionaries (.ytd) with many 4K textures.
  • Vehicles or MLOs exported without optimisation.
  • Many large assets streamed in the same area.

How to fix it

  1. Open the .ytd in a texture tool and resize textures to 2048 or 1024. Most textures do not need 4K.
  2. Use compressed formats (DXT1 for textures without transparency, DXT5 with transparency).
  3. Split very large dictionaries into several smaller ones.
  4. Aim for assets under 16 MiB. The warning shows the asset name, so start with the biggest ones.
  5. Remove unused assets from the server, they still take memory when streamed.
